About Us
Where Tradition Makes Memories
Established 1894
Since 1894, Bo’ness has shown true community spirit, transforming the town each year with colour, music, and local pride. Bo’ness Children’s Fair Festival isn’t just an event on the calendar; it’s the heartbeat of our town. It’s a day where history is honored, childhood is celebrated, and memories are etched into the stone of our coastal home for generations to come.
What began over a century ago as a day off for local miners has blossomed into one of the largest and most prestigious children’s festivals in the UK. While the world around us has changed, the core of the Fair remains untouched: putting the children of Bo’ness at the very centre of the Fair Day.
Every June, the town undergoes a spectacular transformation. From the handcrafted “arches” built by families outside their homes to the celebration of our retinue and crowning of our Fair Queen at Glebe Park, the festival is a testament to the creativity and dedication of our residents.
Entirely volunteer-run, the Fair is fueled by the passion of the Bo’ness Fair Executive Committee and the tireless support of local parents and businesses.
A local schoolgirl is chosen to be the Queen, surrounded by her Royal Retinue in a ceremony steeped in pageantry.
Local families spend months designing and building themed frontages in their gardens, the arches often showcase each schools theme.
A vibrant parade of floats, bands, and school children in dazzling costumes winds through the town.
The Bo’ness Children’s Fair Festival is a registered charity. We rely on the generosity of our community to keep the magic alive. Whether you are building an arch, marching in the band, or donating to the collection, you are part of the story. Join us this June as we crown a new Queen and celebrate the best day of the year.
